I have a web site that I would like to sell subscriptions via PayPal Payments Pro using their recurring billing feature.  I have been testing my web in the sandbox.  When a customer checks out they either create a new user DNN account or uses an existing DNN account.  They then continue to PayPal to enter credit card information.  If for any reason the PayPal connection fails, the customer has already been added to a role that is configured in the store.  This role will allow customers full access without any payment.  Typically a store will wait for a confirmation from the payment processor before allowing fulfillment of the order (in this case the addition of the proper role).

 

Please correct me if I am wrong.  Maybe someone can explain this process.  All I know I am trying to bring my web online without having to babysit all subscription orders.  Please help.

I am not 100% sure but i wonder how your store settings are looking when it comes to creating an invoice.. have you got it set to 'after payment' and not order?

Thanks Nina for your time. It turns out that I had auto assign turned on for the role assignment. That solved the role assignment. Now using the PayPal sandbox I cannot get Catalook to assign the role to the PAID user. I think it is because the sandbox does not send an IPN back to Catalook for payment. Sound correct? -Jim

Oh, the good old 'auto assign' and everyone gets access without you knowing trick... yes that sounds correct.
I would not have thought of that one and glad you shared it.
